Emily Stevens joins us on an industrial placement
14 March 2018
From January to March 2018 we had an industrial placement student working with us from the University of Bristol. Emily Stevens is currently a PhD student working with our research collaborator Dr Ruth Massey, studying the genetic basis for bacterial virulence in the organisms MRSA and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
While on placement Emily was working alongside our Director Tammy Hassel, assisting in specification of the design for the SmartControl software and in the validation of the SwiftDetect sterility test. Emily also helped get our laboratory set up at Microgenetics headquarters, and assisted in validating new equipment at our sister company Bath ASU.
“This placement has been a fantastic experience for me, and a good insight into how industry works in comparison to academia. The team at Microgenetics have been very welcoming and it has been great to contribute to the development of their products, which I’m sure will have a big impact on the pharmaceutical and other sectors in the years to come.”
At Microgenetics we are keen to offer opportunities like this to students with relevant experience in the life sciences. If you would like to work with us for a short term placement in industry, please contact us as firstname.lastname@example.org.
